The three of them sat in the terrace garden at the top of the house, sipping tea that Ali had brought over.

‘Norbu bought it for me it from Raindrops, the store he had mentioned the other day, you remember Sam? I’m planning to go there some time soon.’

‘Ali, I didn’t know her that well until about three months back. She was just cousin Javed’s wife. Javed is Papa’s brother Uncle Ibrahim’s son. Iby’s named after Uncle Ibrahim. They have a huge business of textile exports. Cousin Javed had branched out with Kashmiri handicrafts and garments. Mariam’s brothers live in Toronto and their joint enterprise with Javed was rocking. Uncle Iby and Aunt Farida have their daughter Shaheen living with them, along with her two sons and husband Yusuf, because Yusuf’s really not into anything and Uncle Iby’s taken him into their family business. Everything was okay and three months ago, Javed was just getting ready to go to Toronto.’
